I have specialised in representing the victims of accidents since starting my legal career in 1991. In that time I have helped many fantastic people, who I have enjoyed fantastic relationships with and felt privileged to have been able to help and support them.
Get to know Steven
During my 30 year and counting career I have helped a substantial number of victims of serious accidents who have suffered life changing injuries. The accidents range from road traffic accidents, including pedestrians; accidents at work; and occupier liability claims. The injuries suffered include: traumatic brain injuries; spinal injuries, including paraplegia and cauda equina symptoms; amputation injuries; serious fractures; and multiple trauma. This has not only involved instructing high quality experts, but experts in other disciplines, including: QCs and senior Barristers; nursing care experts; case managers; occupational therapists; architects; financial advisers and many others.
I have negotiated substantial interim payments to fund property purchases and adaptations, some by way of Court applications. I have experienced substantial success in settling high value complex claims by way of arbitration and mediation, although some cases do have to be pursued to trial. As a result of my experience with claims of this nature I have gained a lot of experience of issues relating to provisional damages and periodic payments, as well as referrals to the Court of Protection. I have settled numerous cases for damages in excess of £1m and up.
I have enjoyed many career highlights, achieving settlements for clients with life changing injuries, which have enabled them to purchase appropriate properties and implement the best care packages. This has enabled the clients and their families to get the support they need and engage in being a family.
In one particular case a client’s property and care requirements were quite heavily contested. A combination of Court applications, arbitration and mediations resulted in a significant eight figure settlement. This enabled my client to purchase a suitable family home and benefit from a much needed care package. As a result, my client was able to enjoy quality time with her family, including being able to take family holidays.
Cases involving traumatic brain injuries have been both challenging and very rewarding. The extent and impact of the injury can often be difficult to identify, making it vitally important to instruct the right neurological experts. It is most rewarding to see the extent of recovery that can be achieved with the input of effective rehabilitation and good family support. One particular young client went on to make such a remarkable recovery that they were able to live a very independent life, with minimal external support. In addition to legal work I have organised and participated in numerous charity projects, which have been both hugely enjoyable and great for team building.
