Get to know Rachel
Prior to working at Slater and Gordon, I studied the Legal Practice Course and received my Master’s in Law from the University of Law, with high distinction. I also studied the LLB and graduated with honours, having achieved a 2.1 from the University of Southampton.
I specialised in employment, family, private client and business law on the Legal Practice Course and LLM, that I studied alongside working as a Legal Assistant and conducting pro bono and charity work.
I'm passionate about promoting access to justice and have participated in multiple pro bono initiatives, including:
- Advocate (the Bar’s pro bono charity);
- Commons Law Community Interest Centre (contributing to the State of Innocence Report);
- SolidariTee (helping refugees and asylum seekers access legal representatives); and
- The Family Law Advice Clinic at the University of Law in partnership with Irwin Mitchell.
I'm happy to be helping thousands of people to access justice in my role as a Paralegal at Slater and Gordon.
I've thoroughly enjoyed all of my legal experiences so far. One that stands out to me is the pro bono work I did with Commons Law Community Interest Centre, where I contributed to their research into the requirement for defendants to state their nationality in court during legal proceedings.
The observations were compiled into the 'State of Innocence Report' and highlighted that the policy was 'racialising' the courts and undermining people’s trust and confidence in the justice system and rule of law. The report was cited as instrumental in the u-turn decision of the Ministry of Justice to remove the requirement.
