Get to know Gurvinder
I am an education solicitor (principal lawyer) specialising in the area of special educational needs specifically Education Health and Care plans and have over 11 years of experience.
I joined Slater and Gordon on 4th February 2025 and am based in Birmingham, though I work nationwide.
I deal with cases covering children and young people aged between 0-25 with a range of disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, downs syndrome and learning difficulties. This list is not exhaustive.
I advise on how to secure an EHC plan, the content of these plans to ensure that they are legally enforceable and seek to increase special educational provision and/or secure changes in school/college placements. The provision and placements named within EHC plans are funded by the council. I regularly secure council funding for provision and placements to meet the needs of the children and young people I represent.
I do this by applying my specialist negotiating skills and appeal expertise from my many years of experience in the area of SEN with councils, and as a result, regularly secure successful outcomes. I am able to quickly analyse and identify the legal issues within each case and the evidence required to achieve success.
Where a Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal appeal is required, I identify the key issues in the case and identifies the evidence needed to achieve success. I seek out the required evidence and continue to negotiate during appeal proceedings, and often secure successful outcomes without the need for a hearing.
I have secured council funding for increased therapy provision to ensure the child receives the specified therapy provision that is required to meet their needs and often secure significant increases.
I have secured school and college placements for children and young people who have been out of education for some time, as well as funding for school placements where parents were initially refused.
I also deliver regular parent seminars during the year with several charities and independent colleges, advising on EHC plans and the legal implications of the process.
I am a trustee of two charities based in the West Midlands helping children with disabilities.
Recognition
I was recently nominated for the Law Society’s Legal Hero award by a grateful client. Legal Heroes are solicitors who have made a demonstrative, lasting, and tangible difference to the lives of others, their local community, or society, and have brought distinction to the legal profession.
I am recognised within Legal 500 as a leading partner and in Chambers and Partners as a Star associate.
