Get to know Emma

I have been practicing in probate law for three and a half years, and have been a paralegal within the wills, tax, trusts and probate department at Slater and Gordon for two years.

I believe that putting time aside to understand client’s needs and expectations is paramount in order to ensure that I am able to provide the best legal advice where appropriate and deliver exceptional client services.

Alongside my career as a paralegal, I am studying to become a chartered legal executive . I intend to specialise in both probate practice and family law, having recently passed my probate practice exam.

Career highlights

My experience and knowledge within the probate department means that I have conduct of a variety of matters; including advising and drafting of wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney; providing inheritance tax advice; applying for probate and conducting a full estate administration.

During my career I have had slightly difficult conversations with clients in respect of will matters. For example, a spouse wanted to leave her estate to her children absolutely, excluding her husband due to matrimonial and personal reasons. This required additional legal advice on the best solution for her going forwards. I have also dealt with complex estate administration matters where ambiguity of the will resulted in a number of the deceased’s children not being entitled to inherit from her estate. I was able to mitigate the matter by providing our clients' with options as well as a solution, ensuring that the deceased’s wishes were also fulfilled.
