Heel and Toe extends partnership with law firm

A charity which supports hundreds of children with disabilities across the North East has extended its partnership with one of its longstanding supporters

19 May 2026

Heel & Toe has worked with families across the region since 2008, delivering a range of therapies – including hydrotherapy and hippotherapy, which are unique offerings in the North East – to support the development of children with Cerebral Palsy and other physical and neurological conditions.

The charity - which has two dedicated Therapy Centres in Pelton and Perkinsville, in County Durham – supports hundreds of children and their families each year, relying on grants, donations and fundraising to sustain its vital service.

For several years, Heel & Toe has worked closely with Slater and Gordon, with the law firm partnering with the charity to deliver legal education and advice to its families, as well as sponsoring a number of Heel & Toe’s fundraising events.

Now, due to the ongoing success and development of the relationship, Slater and Gordon has re-committed its support to Heel & Toe for at least the next year.

Amanda Tweedy, CEO of Heel & Toe, says: “We are absolutely delighted to have the continued support of Slater & Gordon and their team in 2026. As we receive no government funding, we rely heavily on the generosity of local businesses to sustain our services, so we are truly grateful for their sponsorship of several of our fundraising events, helping to boost the vital funds raised.

It’s also wonderful to see so many members of the legal team taking part in our fundraising events, such as the Northumberland Coast Walk. In addition, having access to the legal team’s expertise for parents who may need advice and guidance is invaluable.”

John Lowther, principal lawyer at Slater and Gordon in the North East, says: “For almost 18 years, Heel & Toe has played an invaluable role in supporting families across the region who struggle to find the therapies and interventions they need elsewhere. Waiting lists are vast and often children miss out on the support they badly need – but through the dedication of Heel & Toe, the needs of many young people in the North East are now being met.

“It has been fantastic to build a relationship with the amazing team at Heel & Toe, and to get to know so many of their families too. We’re delighted to extend our partnership and give our support to Heel & Toe in as many ways as we can both now and into the future.”
