Is Drink Driving Worth Risking Everything?
The festive season is upon us once more and already our pubs and clubs are abuzz with office parties and drinks events.
Every year we are reminded about how dangerous taking the risk of getting in the car after drinking is and yet still people are dying needlessly on our roads.
The Serious Injury team at Slater and Gordon Lawyers report a spike each festive season in the number of cases we are asked to deal with involving death or injury where alcohol has been a contributory factor. Usually they are driving or assault related cases.
Increasingly we are dealing with “morning after” injuries where the driver believed they were safe to drive because they enjoyed a good night’s sleep. The reality is you can be over the legal limit many hours after your last drink. Sleep, coffee and cold showers don’t sober you up. Time is the only way to get alcohol out of your system.
Drink driving will catch out those who consider themselves law abiding, respectable, decent people. Responsibility for the death or injury of another is a dreadful burden to carry for the rest of your life. Some will lose their own lives. Others will suffer such serious injuries that their lives will never be the same.
Stop and ask yourself – is drink driving worth risking everything?
