With the business and professional world facing increasing levels of investigation and prosecution by regulatory bodies, Slater and Gordon Lawyers has responded to the increasingly complex landscape with the creation of two new specialist teams.
The firm’s Business Crime and Regulation (BCR) team has become two distinct divisions in recognition of the need for a multidisciplinary approach to assist businesses and professionals who come under the scrutiny of their regulators.
Jeremy Summers specialises in white collar crime with particular emphasis on corruption, fraud and financial regulation. Formerly a Principal Lawyer in Slater and Gordon’s BCR team, he has become Senior Principal Lawyer and Head of the Business Crime team, which will focus on fraud, corruption and bribery cases, and enforcement action taken by the FSA.
Jeremy Summers said, “We’ve taken the decision to react to the changing market by pooling areas of expertise. We’re confident that this will enhance our ability to provide the excellent advice and service we are known for. It will also enable us to grow our offering to businesses which are targeted by an ever growing range of criminal and enforcement legislation, whilst at the same time, helping us work to our aim of becoming the largest and most trusted provider of personal legal services in the UK.”
Craig McAdam is a specialist in regulatory investigations. He will move from his role as Principal Lawyer in the BCR department to head up the new Disciplinary and Regulatory Defence team, alongside Rosemary Rollason who is a specialist in Professional Disciplinary Law.
Craig McAdam said, “Regulatory issues faced by businesses are multi faceted. Our new team combines an outstandingly high calibre of expertise comprising regulatory specialist experts in professional conduct issues and employment lawyers. Where necessary it will also be able to benefit from assistance from criminal practitioners. All of whom will help ensure that our clients stay on the right side of an ever changing regulatory regime whilst protecting their livelihoods and assets.”
The two new teams will work across the country from its 18 offices to offer expertise in police and regulatory investigations, Health and Safety Law, financial services issues, conduct and fitness to practise investigations, hearings for Doctors, Dentists, Solicitors and Accountants and, business support, structure and Compliance Law.
