London GP Charged With 118 Sexual Offences

A GP who practised in east London has been charged with 118 sexual offences.

Manish Shah is accused of 65 counts of assault by penetration and 52 allegations of sexual assault.

The offences were alleged to have occurred at a GP practice between June 2004 and July 2013 and relate to 54 victims. The 47-year-old is also charged with one count of sexual assault on a child under 13.

The charges were announced on Wednesday 2 August following an investigation that began over four years ago. Special detectives from Scotland Yard’s sexual abuse command uncovered a series of allegations concerning alleged sexual offences.

We know from representing many clients who have been sexually assaulted or abused by doctors or others in the medical profession that the breach of trust they feel when this occurs is incredibly distressing and long lasting.

Kim Harrison, a specialist abuse lawyer at Slater and Gordon, said: “We know from representing many clients who have been sexually assaulted or abused by doctors or others in the medical profession that the breach of trust they feel when this occurs is incredibly distressing and long lasting.

“We urge anyone who has been affected to contact the NHS helpline and the police.”

Mr Shah is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Thursday August 31.

A dedicated number has been set up by the NHS for any individuals who may have concerns or questions on 0800 011 4253.
