Diffuse Mesothelioma Compensation Payments Increased

The tariff of payments made under the diffuse mesothelioma payment scheme has gone up. The increase from 80% of average civil claims to 100% means that people who are diagnosed with fatal Mesothelioma from 10th February 2015 onwards will get more compensation.

The increase to full compensation has come about because the number of claimants made under the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme, established last year by the Mesothelioma Act 2014, was lower than expected. The new compensation payments threshold will come into place when the legislation formerly becomes law in March 2015.

The Mesothelioma Act 2014 set up the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme to help sufferers of this fatal cancer pursue compensation claims more easily. If a victim of mesothelioma cannot trace their employer or their employers’ insurance company they will be paid their Mesothelioma Compensation through the diffuse mesothelioma payment scheme.

Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer that usually starts in the lungs. There is no cure and sadly thousands of people in the UK who came into contact with asbestos dust and fibres will die from mesothelioma in the future.
