Thomas Cook Sued over Girl's Injury Accident on Holiday
Thomas Cook is being sued by the parents of an eight-year-old girl after she suffered very serious injuries in an accident while on holiday in Turkey.
Heidi-Ray Noble Steeples was staying at a resort in the Oludeniz area of Turkey and was climbing to the top of a slide in a children's play area. While at the top of the ladder, Heidi-Ray fell from the step she was on and landed on what her parents describe as a "poorly positioned" picket fence.
The fall, which took place in August 2012, caused the fence to damage her left kidney, and eventuality doctors had to remove the kidney.
After the accident Heidi-Ray had to spend two weeks in a Turkish hospital where she was treated for her injuries and a bout of Pneumonia. The family also claimed their daughter experienced a severe allergic reaction as a result of the plasters that were given to her to protect her wounds.
After returning to her home in Leeds, it was still a matter of months before Heidi was able to return to school because of regular meetings she had to have with a renal specialist. Due to the fact that her kidney had to be removed, she is now not allowed to take part in a range of sporting activities, including her beloved pursuit of horse riding.
Heidi-Ray's mother Sarah Noble Steeples explained what was meant to be a relaxing and enjoyable holiday had turned into a very distressing ordeal. She said, "Falling from that slide has changed Heidi's life forever and it could all so easily have been prevented if the resort had taken more care with the layout of its play area."
The family has now employed a specialist law firm to seek damages from Thomas Cook, the company that runs the resort.
Mrs Noble Steeples added, "We want to make sure somebody takes responsibility for Heidi's fall because there is no excuse for an eight-year-old having to go through this and having to adjust to life after the accident."
