Compensation has today (July 25th) been awarded to Charlotte Church on the grounds of libel after a media group published a false story about her.
The singer took legal action against The People after a story detailing how she had proposed to her boyfriend Jonathan Powell in a "boozy pub karaoke night" in Cardiff featured in the newspaper last November.
Church filed a writ at the High Court in London stating the allegations put forward in the piece - which also included the claim she celebrated late into the night with champagne and then had to be helped into a taxi - were false.
She noted the article has caused embarrassment and distress to her, her friends and family and Mr Powell.
And the High Court has now ruled that MGN should issue an apology and pay undisclosed compensation to the 26-year-old - while also footing the bill for her legal costs - on the basis that the piece was defamatory.
