A six-figure compensation sum has been awarded to the widow of a cyclist who passed away following a road traffic accident.
Jane Clarke has been granted damages worth more than £200,000 after her husband Bas died at the age of 65 due to the severity of the chest and abdominal injuries he sustained in a collision with a lorry, according to the Leicester Mercury.
At the time of this incident - which took place in September 2009 - Mr Clarke was travelling along the A1 in Rutland when he was hit by a truck being driven by Karel Sedivy.
In a subsequent case heard at Leicester Crown Court in October 2010, Mr Sedivy admitted to causing death by dangerous driving but then served less than six months of his 16-month prison sentence.
His insurers have now made an offer of compensation to Mrs Clarke, which she has accepted.
Jonathan Reid of Russell Jones and Walker who represented the widow commented: "The settlement finally draws to a close what has undoubtedly been a devastating time for Bas's family."
