Computer services firm announces 640 job cuts
Hundreds of professionals in the computer services industry are set to face redundancy in the coming months, it has emerged.
Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has announced it is to cut some 640 jobs across the UK and insisted such action is necessary because customers are now interested in "new services with different contract and delivery models".
In a statement published today (April 24th), the company indicated it hopes a significant number of these redundancies can be implemented on a voluntary basis over the course of a forthcoming 90-day consultation period.
CSC went on to pledge that where this is not possible, it will strive to provide sufficient help and support to make sure anybody leaving the company will do so "in the best possible position".
However, trade union Unite - which has 1.5 million members - noted this move has come as a "severe body blow" following the announcement of around 500 job cuts by CSC earlier this year.
