Redundancy is becoming an increasingly large threat to professionals working for an NHS trust, new figures have revealed.
According to data obtained through a freedom of information request by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, some 39 back room staff at NHS Northamptonshire have lost their jobs at some point over the last 16 months.
This has resulted in the body awarding pay settlements of more than £1 million as the organisation seeks to significantly reduce its operating costs in line with government targets.
A spokesman for the trust indicated that in July 2010, all health bodies were instructed to cut their management outgoings by 45 per cent over the coming four years, which led to widespread redundancies being unavoidable
"We recognise this has been a difficult time for staff affected and have worked with our staff throughout this process to ensure that where possible, alternative employment was found," he added.
