Professional launches unfair dismissal claim
A landmark employment tribunal is taking place in Reading after a man claimed he was constructively dismissed last June because he uploaded his CV on LinkedIn.
John Flexman is seeking compensation after leaving his £68,000 per annum role as a human resources executive at BG Group due to a dispute with his employer over the fact he created a profile on the site, which has more than 135 million members worldwide.
Mr Flexman ticked a box on the platform indicating he was interested in other "career opportunities", something his manager stated represented "inappropriate use of social media".
The 34-year-old professional was subsequently warned he could be sacked following a disciplinary consultation.
However, he has told the tribunal fellow employees had also done this without being punished, meaning he had been treated unjustly.
"It seemed to me that the focus of the charge sheet was the posting of my CV online," Mr Flexman added.
