Two teachers launch unfair dismissal claim against college
A couple are launching a claim for unfair dismissal on racial and religious discrimination grounds against their former employers.
Professor Malory Nye and Isabel Campbell-Nye were dismissed from their positions as headmaster and head of English language respectively from Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education in Dundee, Scotland and they claim it was because they were seen as a threat to core Muslim values.
They are now bringing the institution - which is an independent research-led place of schooling - to an employment tribunal as they seek a settlement.
Prof Nye alleges that two individuals at the facility colluded to have him removed from his position so that he could be replaced with a Muslim.
He told the Daily Telegraph: "Multiculturalism and respect for cultural and religious differences are, I had thought, core values of the college."
The pair have said they were suspended in June without any reason being given and were dismissed in November.
