Motorcyclist awarded damages after road traffic accident

A motorcyclist who sustained a life-changing head injury during a road traffic accident has been awarded compensation.

According to the Watford Observer, David Scott Buchan suffered catastrophic brain and facial trauma - as well as spine and rib injuries - when his vehicle collided with a car in February 2005 and subsequently had to spend a period in intensive care.

The 28-year-old has never been able to return to work following the accident and has also suffered with long-term bouts of depression, fatigue and anxiety.

Consequently, in a case heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, Mr Justice Langstaff approved a "substantial" damages settlement to help Mr Buchan's mother and stepfather - who he now lives with - pay for his future care.

Recently, the Hounslow Chronicle reported that motorcyclist Nerys Pearce is pursuing damages in excess of £300,000 through a High Court writ claiming she has developed complex regional pain syndrome in both legs after a crash in October 2008.
