A former postwoman is seeking compensation on the grounds of unfair dismissal during an employment tribunal on Merseyside.
According to the Southport Visiter, Pauline McCallion claims she was put back on full delivery duties just days after undergoing IVF treatment to remove one of her fallopian tubes.
These duties - which involved her lifting sacks weighing as much as 16 kilograms - resulted in her being readmitted to hospital just three days after going back to work with abdominal pains.
Ms McCallion eventually left her position with Royal Mail - which has more than 175,000 employees globally - and informed the tribunal she felt forced to do so by her superiors.
"During the delivery I felt strained, found it difficult and was struggling ... my only thoughts were that there was no way I could do a full delivery," she commented.
However, she added that she felt she had "no choice" but to comply with her instructions, despite not being well enough.
