£1.1m compensation granted to man after life-changing road crash
A man whose personality was completely altered after he was involved in a road accident has been granted £1.1 million in compensation.
David Sutton, 25, had been a passenger in a car being driven between Wallingford and Goring in January 2006 when it collided with another vehicle, the Oxford Mail reports.
He sustained serious head injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.
Since the accident, Mr Sutton - a former supermarket worker - has suffered from epilepsy, blackouts and depression and has been unable to hold down a job.
With the assistance of his mother, the victim took legal action against the driver of the other vehicle and High Court judge Mrs Justice Nicola Davies this week approved a settlement of £1.1 million to cover his future care needs.
"I am left in no doubt that this is an appropriate settlement," the judge commented.
According to the Department for Transport, there were 222,146 reported road casualties in 2009, the most recent year for which statistics are available.
