Paralysed man awarded medical negligence compensation
A medical negligence compensation settlement has been awarded to a man who is paralysed from the neck down following a case of malpractice at a hospital.
According to the News Shopper, Steven Johns, who is 24 years old, will receive a sum for damages from Lewisham Hospital after a spinal abscess that was not diagnosed quickly enough left him with an infection which then caused the majority of his body to be paralysed.
In addition, the fact that Mr Johns was not treated in time at the clinical institution - which is run by the Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust, an organisation that cares for more than 260,000 people - meant that he also had to undergo a tracheotomy to help him breathe.
"I have lost all faith and trust in general hospitals and if anything like this ever happened again, I would go private," he told the news source after learning of his award.
