Employers offered advice which may limit grievance cases

Employers may be able to avoid grievance cases brought by their workers if they heed the advice of one expert.

According to Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, organisations need to adapt their approach to employee engagement depending on the individual in question, as there is no such thing as a "one-size-fits-all" policy that will suit 100 per cent of staff members.

Mr Flaxton explained every company is likely to have some workers that are "very self-motivated and probably don't require a great deal of managing" as they are completely aware of their responsibilities and are happy to get on with their job alone.

However, he added that there are also other employees who need to be "managed on a more hands-on basis".

These comments came after the publication of a report by The Work Foundation, which stated that employers should focus more on their self-motivated staff members.
