Widow to receive compensation over road collision
A woman whose husband was killed when the car he was in was struck from behind by another vehicle is to receive compensation.
In August last year, Tony Raford was at the back of a line of traffic approaching road works at the Hatfield Tunnel - which is located near Hatfield and St Albans - when another motorist ploughed into him, Biggleswade Today reports.
Such was the force of the impact that he ended up next to a car that had been four places in front of his.
He was on his way to work when the accident occurred.
Rescuers found him unconscious and an air ambulance took him to hospital, where he died the next day.
In a new development, it has been ruled that the man who caused the incident, Paul Mumford, should pay compensation to Mr Raford's widow.
He had pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.
