Coroner draws attention to possible clinical negligence case
A coroner has called for an investigation into the death of an elderly woman who had been staying at Colchester General Hospital.
According to medical expert Caroline Beasley-Murray, there is a need to analyse the circumstances under which the pensioner passed away as clinical negligence may have been involved, the Chelmsford Weekly News reports.
She contacted police in order to get the proceedings underway.
No details have yet been released concerning the patient, who died earlier this week.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in the near future.
Commenting on the case, spokesman for Essex Police Bill Stock said: "Inquiries are at a very early stage and no further details will be available until results are received from a post-mortem examination."
Meanwhile, Mark Prentice from Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust said the organisation - which serves a population of around 370,000 - would cooperate fully with the investigation.
