Widow of asbestos-related cancer victim makes compensation calls
A woman who lost her husband to asbestos-related cancer has made a plea for compensation.
Sally Ward noted that her late husband Gary will not be able to benefit from any money, but said she was determined to raise the profile of the campaign, the Burton Mail reports.
He died last month, which was a year after he had been diagnosed with the lung condition.
According to the news source, he had been exposed to asbestos nearly 30 years ago while working as a mechanic in Castle Gresley.
His former employer is out of business and its insurers cannot be traced.
Ms Ward said: "The reason we are fighting for this is because we all want to pay attention to asbestos-related illnesses."
She noted that she has received considerable support from the Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team, which was established in March 2002 and became a registered charity five years later.
