A peer has revealed he is to sue a newspaper over a story it published concerning him.
According to the Press Gazette, Lord Ashcroft is taking legal action against the Independent.
His case centres on an article which focused on his financial dealings in the Caribbean.
The front page piece appeared in November last year and, according to a high court writ issued by Lord Ashcroft, the claims were repeated in a second story the following day.
He is seeking compensation from Independent News and Media - which is a newspaper and communications group with interests in a range of countries including the UK, Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.
The peer is also suing business editor Stephen Foley and editor Roger Alton from the Independent.
Additionally, he is looking to get an injunction banning the repetition of the allegations which were supposedly made about him in the articles.
