Fatal Ruptured Abdominal Aneurism Claim Awarded Compensation
The family of a man who died because medical test results were not passed on in time have been awarded medical negligence compensation.
Three years ago, Ron Withington lost his life when an abdominal aneurism ruptured.
He had had a scan three months earlier which revealed his abdominal aneurism was likely to burst, but shortcomings in the administrative system at Worcester Royal Hospital meant the findings were not transferred to a consultant in time for urgent surgery to be conducted.
Mr Withington's daughter Julie said, "It could have been avoided. I still believe someone was not doing their job properly and therefore should at the very least have been named, shamed and sacked."
Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Trust, which employs more than 5,000 people and has an annual turnover of over £290 million; offered apologies to the family.
The organisation admitted full liability and agreed to pay a six-figure medical negligence compensation.
