Case involving alleged religious discrimination to go to ECoJ

Case involving alleged religious discrimination to go to ECoJ

A man who claims he lost his position on a radio station as a result of religious discrimination is taking his case to the European Court of Justice (ECoJ).

The Rev Mahboob Masih, who is a minister in the Church of Scotland, alleges that he was unfairly dismissed and discriminated against on the grounds of his faith.

He was told not to return to Awaz FM following a debate he participated on concerning the differences between Christianity and Islam.

The community station, which is based in Glasgow, denies the claims and the case is now to go to Luxembourg.

Founder of the Christian Legal Centre Andrea Minichiello Williams stated: "Rev Masih looks forward greatly to the European Court case as this will give Christians throughout Europe a unique opportunity to have their rights confirmed in law."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Awaz FM, which broadcasts in Urdu, Punjabi and English, said: "We are deeply disappointed that it has come this far."
