A woman has lodged a constructive dismissal claim against her former employers.
Julie Abel quit her role as town clerk for Canvey town council in June and is now taking the organisation to tribunal, the Essex Echo reports.
While the precise grounds for the claim have not been revealed, the publication suggests that it relates to the level of pressure she was under in her job.
Ms Abel had been off work for two months due to stress prior to her resignation.
Commenting on her legal plight, she said: "I am disappointed for the people of Canvey and this is not something I feel happy about.
"However, the council is an employer and it has a responsibility to comply with employment law."
According to the Essex Echo, if she proves successful, she could be in line for compensation running into thousands of pounds.
Canvey town council is headquartered on the High Street on Canvey Island, which is located off the south-east coast of Essex in the Thames estuary.
