Compensation awarded to boy who suffered head and spinal injuries
Compensation totalling £8.1 million has been awarded to a boy who suffered serious injuries as a result of being run over.
At the age of two, Callum Cross was caught beneath the wheels of his father's car as he reversed at a farm near Leighton Buzzard, which is a town situated south of Milton Keynes.
The accident, which occurred in March 2002, left the youngster with fractures to his skull and spinal cord damage.
He also went on to suffer a stroke and will never be able to lead an independent life.
Through his mother, Callum sued his father, claiming negligence as his father had failed to see him as he travelled backwards in his car.
Patrick Cross' insurers accepted liability and made an initial payment of £1.7 million.
During a recent hearing, the rest of the money was awarded and will be paid in the form of a £2.5 million lump sum followed by annual amounts designed to cover the cost of his care for the rest of his life.
