Painter and decorator injured in fall secures £118k in compensation
A painter and decorator who was seriously injured in a fall has been successful in his bid to receive a payout.
The employee, who has not been named, was conducting work in the classroom of a local college when the incident occurred.
He was contracted to Southern Decorators in Brighton and was working for Portchester Plastics Decorators at the time.
The individual decided to avoid using a scaffold tower which he deemed to be unsafe, instead opting to climb a small step ladder.
While involved in decorating, he fell ten feet from the ladder, sustaining a compound fracture to his leg.
Since the accident, he has had to undergo numerous operations and he now requires a mobility car to leave his property.
In 2007-08, there were 136,771 injuries suffered by UK workers reported under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations Act, according to figures produced by the Health and Safety Executive.
