Loose flagstone results in payout for woman
A woman has secured compensation following an incident in which she suffered an injury to her knee.
Lilian Morgan was walking through the central Cheshire town of Northwich - which lies 15 miles south of Warrington - when she fell over a loose flagstone.
Commenting on the incident, the 85-year-old said: "I'd never had to use a walking stick and did things like decorating myself but now I can't bend.
"Even the judge turned round and said he'd been around Northwich and they never seem to do anything about those flags."
Cheshire county council was ordered to pay compensation plus costs amounting to a total of £20,000 in relation to the incident.
A spokesman for the organisation defended its decision to take the claim to court, saying that it would not have done so if it did not believe it had a chance of success.
He did, however, say that the local authority accepted the decision of the court.
