A group of Gerry and Kate McCann's friends have secured libel damages from two newspapers, it has been revealed.
Referred to as the "Tapas 7", they received £375,000 from the Daily Express and Daily Star, which are both published by Express Newspapers.
The case centred on stories alleging that they were involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
During a recent high court hearing, the publications admitted that stories were false and had been detrimental to the search for the youngster.
The papers also agreed to pay all legal costs and the compensation money will go to the fund established to help in the search for Madeleine, who went missing in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.
A statement made by the group outside court said: "The defamatory stories written about us were not only extremely damaging on a personal level but we strongly feel were detrimental to the search for Madeleine."
