Boss ruled to have sexually discriminated against worker

A business owner has been judged to have sexually discriminated against one of his employees.

Paul Dewhurst, who ran Birkdale Food For Thought and Adec Cleaning Services - both situated in the Southport district of Birkdale, Merseyside - was taken to a tribunal by former worker Sharon Broadhurst.

The 39-year-old accused her ex-boss of sacking her five minutes after she refused to go to a beach with him, allegedly to have sex, the Southport Visiter reports.

During a recent hearing, it was ruled that Ms Broadhurst's claims were "well-founded".

Mr Dewhurst, meanwhile, claimed he sacked her because she was unprofessional, used her mobile phone when she should have been dealing with customers and smoked on the premises.

He was not present at the employment tribunal.

Commenting on the case, Ms Broadhurst said: "I want people to know he's done something wrong and he was found guilty."
