Ozzy Osbourne secures libel damages

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has secured substantial libel damages from the Daily Star, it has been revealed.

The newspaper, which is published by Express Newspapers, had alleged that the star suffered a health scare that jeopardised the Brit Awards, which were co-hosted by Ozzy, wife Sharon and children Kelly and Jack.

Entitled 'Ozzy's freak show', the article also suggested that the show's organisers went into a last minute meeting to discuss whether to withdraw him from the awards.

Additionally, it was alleged that the former Black Sabbath singer used an electric buggy to get around the set and that chairs had to be placed on the stage in case he got tired.

The rocker's legal representative claimed the story had caused significant embarrassment and distress to him.

A representative from Express Newspapers issued an apology and accepted that the allegations were not true and should not have been published.
