Dr Austen Ivereigh, a former aide to Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, is suing for libel over an article published in the Daily Mail.
The story was based on allegations made by two women concerning their relationships with him, including a claim that one of the women had an abortion.
Dr Ivereigh, who used to be director of public affairs for Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor, says that the publication of the article has "wreaked havoc and devastation" in his life, the Press Gazette reports.
He also says that it branded him a hypocrite over the issue of abortion.
Earlier this week, Daily Mail lawyers won an order to protect the identity of one of the women involved because of the potential impact it could have on her children.
The trial is set to begin on February 18th and is predicted to last for three weeks, with Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor due to be called as a witness.
