Woman seeks custody of daughter in divorce settlement
A woman who had been imprisoned after being wrongly convicted of killing her two baby sons is now seeking a divorce from her husband and custody of their remaining daughter.
Angela Cannings' life sentence for murder was quashed in 2003 after medical evidence was discredited.
Nearly 20 years after their marriage took place, she now intends to divorce her husband Terry Cannings, citing the couple's time apart while she was incarcerated as the reason behind the split.
Mr Cannings told the Daily Mail: "It is all down to the four years' separation. After she came out of prison we were two different people."
The 44-year-old is now set to take legal action in an attempt to gain full parental responsibility for their daughter Jade on the grounds that Mr Cannings is an "inappropriate" parent.
According to the Office for National Statistics, in 2006, 69 per cent of all divorces were granted to wives.
