A former children's play centre hostess has won £1,618 after her employer sacked her for being late, the Express & Star reports.
Sarah Read used to work for Jennings Associates at a Kids Aloud centre, which holds drama classes for young people aged four to 16, but was sacked for turning up late.
The 20-year-old, who had been employed in her role for 18 months, said that she had been unfairly dismissed for turning up between ten and 15 minutes late.
Her employers were accused of not complying with the Employment Rights Act after failing to conduct the appropriate disciplinary and dismissal procedures.
Tribunal chairman Asleem Ahmed concurred with the appellant and asked Ms Read and the firm's representatives if they wished to come to an agreement. When they declined he awarded Ms Read compensation.
Mr Ahmed said that Ms Read's employers had not consulted her over the intended dismissal and thus has breached employment regulations.
