Sir Paul McCartney may be about to come to a divorce settlement of £25 million with his ex-wife Heather Mills, the Mirror reports.
According to the newspaper, Sir Paul has offered the former model the cash and her legal team are urging her to accept it.
A source commented: "There is no guarantee - but it's the closest they've been."
The alleged offer represents a significant increase on Sir Paul's previous proposal of between £3 million and £5 million.
"There has been serious wrangling going on behind the scenes for months and months … and [Heather's lawyer] has finally managed to get them to hike the package up to about £25 million," the source added.
The 65-year-old former Beatle, who separated with Mills in May 2006 citing increasing pressures in the relationship, is believed to have made the offer after last week's pre-divorce hearing.
