Bullied teenager to sue local authority for up to £100,000
A teenage girl is to sue her local Scottish council claiming she was the subject of anti-English bullying at school.
Sophie Parks claims she was subjected to abuse of a physical and verbal nature over a two-year period while attending the Nicholson Institute on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.
Ms Parks, who is now 18, is set to claim that the Western Isles Council failed to take sufficient action to protect her from the abuse.
The claim also centres on allegations that the girl's career was damaged since the bullying was so bad it forced her to leave school early.
Among the incidents that Ms Parks states caused her distress is being repeatedly referred to as "the English bitch" by a group of girls.
The amount of damages being sought is not known, but should the court accept Ms Parks' claim that her career was damaged, it is thought that the award could be in the region of £100,000.
It is thought that if the claim is successful a further 30 similar actions could come to court.
