Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon and husband Ryan Phillippe are to enter a custody battle over their two children.
Witherspoon initially filed a divorce petition seeking primary custody of Deacon, 3, and Ava, 7, in November last year.
However, now Phillippe has responded by requesting joint custody of their offspring and that the children are "equally allocated".
Meanwhile, in spite of her vastly greater earnings, in Witherspoon's original petition she also requested that no spousal support be paid.
Conversely, although Phillippe is not seeking spousal support, he has not requested that he will not have to pay alimony to his former wife.
Both parties have cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.
Having met on the set of Cruel Intentions in 1999, the couple married the same year but did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.
Witherspoon won an Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of Rose Cash in the biopic of country singing star Johnny Cash, Walk the Line.
