Council pays out compensation for man with back injury
A father of four has won £12,000 compensation after damaging his back while working for Lewisham Council
Craig Lewis was left unable to work after the injury, which happened when he fell from his chair when its back rest collapsed in 2004.
As a result he was unable to work in his position as premises officer for a total of six months and is still in pain.
The size of the payment reflects the fact that he had to find a work of different nature as well as wages lost through missed overtime.
He was supported throughout his claim by Unison.
Regional head of local government at Unison, Vicky Easton told News Shopper: "We are pleased with the result of Craig Lewis' case. The compensation is therefore wholly justified."
Mr Lewis had been employed as a premises officer for twenty years.
