Coleen Mcloughlin to sue Daily Mail for libel

Coleen Mcloughlin is to sue the Daily Mail's publishers Associated Newspapers for up to £200,000 for a story she claims was defamatory, it has been reported.

According to media industry journal Press Gazette, Wayne Rooney's girlfriend is to sue over a story that appeared in the Daily Mail on March 31 and which bore the headline 'No Thanks Coleen'.

As well as the sum of damages, she is also seeking that the libels that she claims were contained in the paper are not repeated and that the cost of her pursuing the claim is met by Associated Newspapers.

News of the forthcoming lawsuit comes at a time when Associated Newspapers is being sued for libel by the former husband of TV presenter Anne Diamond and TV executive Mike Hollingsworth.

Mr Hollingsworth claims that an allegation that he had initiated a violent attack on his girlfriend Harriet Scott at a party in 1998 are unfounded.
