A parenting expert is to receive libel damages from a website after its messageboards allegedly carried derogatory remarks about her.
Gina Ford, who is the author of the book Contented Little Babies, had embarked on a libel action against Mumsnet last year when she saw the messages.
In one message posted by a visitor to the site Ms Ford was compared to a terrorist in the Middle East, which she claims caused her to be distressed.
However, the two parties have now reached an out of court settlement whereby Ms Ford will receive an undisclosed payment.
A statement from Mumsnet said: "Mumsnet apologises to Gina Ford for the comments made about her by some Mumsnet users, and has made a contribution to Gina Ford's legal costs.
"Mumsnet will no longer bar discussion of Ms Ford's books and methods but will not tolerate personal attacks on her.
"Mumsnet urges all its members to remain civil and fair towards Gina Ford and indeed any other individual in line with the site's abuse policy."
The website is currently attracting up to 250,000 visitors per month.
