A jury at Manchester Crown Court has found ten men guilty of committing serious sexual offences against young girls in Rochdale.
The offences took place between 2004 and 2008 and involved victims as young as 13.
All ten men were arrested as part of Operation Doublet, the inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Rochdale. Their arrests came after a teenage girl, who was raped by all ten of the men, contacted police in 2012 after nine other men from Rochdale were convicted of grooming young girls in the town.
Courage and Determination of Survivors
During two trials at Manchester Crown Court, the jury heard how the victims were groomed over time by the men and had sex with them against their will.
Counsel for the prosecution told the jury how the men “deliberately targeted the girls because of their youth and vulnerability” and manipulated their trust by pretending to offer genuine friendship before abusing them.
The young survivors were praised for their bravery in coming forward and speaking out about what happened to them. Referring to one young victim, Senior Crown Prosecutor Alison Cartmell said: "She has shown tremendous courage and determination in facing up to her abusers and giving evidence at court during two trials."
Greater Manchester Police also paid testament to “the brave and courageous victims who have found the confidence to speak of their harrowing experiences”.
