The Driver Vehicle Standard Agency has issued a full safety recall of Vauxhall’s Zafira B cars after multiple reports of fires destroying vehicles.
Previously it was a recall from Vauxhall to check for faults with heating systems but with the DVSA stepping in it’s a sign that customers’ concerns are being taken seriously.
Vauxhall has written to 234,938 Zafira B owners asking them to get their vehicle inspected. Any fixes that are needed will be done free of charge.
Vauxhall says that the reason for the fault is due to work “undertaken outside of Vauxhall’s authorised service and maintenance processes and schedule”. This would imply some sort of blame on the owners for not using Vauxhall dealerships for repairs.
Slater and Gordon advised Zafira B owners to report their concerns directly to the DVSA and we’re very pleased to see that the concerns have been taken seriously.
Sue Freemantle’s Zafira burst into flames a few years ago and to highlight the issue she started a Facebook group to see if there were others out there who had had the same experience. The group now has over 14,500 members, many of whom have experienced their Zafira catching fire.
Slater and Gordon are still investigating the possibility of legal action against Vauxhall so if you’ve been affected by the Zafira B fires please get in touch.
