East of England Hospital Deficits Putting Patients at Risk
BBC research has highlighted that hospital debts across East Anglia may result in adverse risks for patients.
Key hospitals, such as Peterborough and Stamford, Mid Essex, Milton Keynes, Colchester, Ipswich, Kings Lynn, Northampton and Bedford Trusts face a combined shortfall of approximately £200 million this year, with Peterborough the highest in the region at £39.5 million.
To protect patient safety, we need to ensure that adequate funding and resource management are in place. This will enable the NHS to provide the excellent care they are capable of.
Ongoing errors can put patients in danger. This can lead to avoidable complications which could be catastrophic and also increase the occurrence of medical negligence incidents.
The NHS needs to cohesively demonstrate improved effective risk management in order to avoid further issues with resources from arising.
