There were 99 work-related injuries reported in the Derbyshire Dales from 2013 to 2014.
New figures, reported in the Derbyshire Times, also revealed details for Amber Valley and High Peak.
Compared to the Derbyshire Dales, which has a population of around 71,000, nearby Amber Valley and High Peak have around 123,000 and 91,000 people living within the district boundaries respectively.
The Amber Valley has had 202 work-related injuries. Meanwhile High Peak has seen 92 workplace injuries. Of these three local government districts in Derbyshire it would appear that the Amber Valley has the most dangerous workplaces.
There have also been three fatal accidents recorded in workplaces in Derbyshire over the past three years. Derbyshire businesses have now been called to make their workers' wellbeing this financial year’s top priority by the Health and Safety Executive in a bid to reduce the numbers of Workplace Injuries.
The lives of families of the workers in Derbyshire who lost their lives at work will be forever changed, as will those workers who have sustained a serious injury whilst at work. However it is not all doom and gloom for Derbyshire. Figures indicate that safety is improving. Indeed fatal accidents at work have decreased by 85%.
However there is always more that can be done. If Derbyshire employers put health and safety along with the welfare of their workforce to the forefront of their minds, they could make this financial year the best for low accident figures. This would see the sustained general trend for continued improvement in workplace conditions which has been reflected in statistics over the past four decades.
Whilst the slight fall in the number of fatalities at work in the region is clearly positive I do agree with the HSE in that more can, and indeed should be done to ensure further improvements are made in ensuring the safety of workers.
