How to Get the Most from a Divorce Solicitor
Sadly it’s not always the most wonderful time of the year for everyone and every year our Divorce Solicitors see an increase in enquiries leading up to Christmas and in the New Year.
When a relationship is in trouble it’s always best to get expert legal advice as soon as possible before making the decision to separate.
We do understand that the first appointment with a Divorce Solicitor may seem to be daunting and we would suggest the following tips:
Gather your thoughts and make a list of all questions to ask the Solicitor.
Don’t go to see a Divorce Solicitor when you are very angry or upset. Arrange your appointment when you feel a little calmer.
If you are not ready to proceed to a divorce or separation your Divorce Solicitor can advise you as such. He/she will also encourage you to try and think about arrangements for your children.
Many children get stuck in the middle of their parent’s arguments which can have a long lasting impact on them. Parents should always try to refrain from being negative about the other parent, or from applying pressure and questioning them in front of their child/children. It is very important for a child’s wellbeing that they are allowed to love both parents and not take sides.
If possible use Family Mediation and speak to each other about what you want to achieve. Do not ask a Divorce Solicitor to write lots of unnecessary letters which will be expensive. Try to be civil and polite to each other if at all possible.
Value yourself and be glad of the time you have spent together as a couple even though that has now come to an end.
