Guidance for Separating Couples over New Year
Each year, it is a sad fact, that following the Christmas holidays there is a peak in couples separating and pursuing divorce proceedings. This year it is expected that 5th January 2015 will be one of the busiest days of the year for Divorce Lawyers.
If you are contemplating separation or divorce, there will initially be some concerns due to the uncertainty of the future. It is therefore important to seek expert legal advice as soon as possible. The more guidance you have the more likely your separation or divorce will proceed as smoothly and amicably as possible.
Here are some initial points to consider:
1. Keep Talking – Communication, particularly where children are involved, is key to ensure that matters relating to your separation can be resolved as quickly, cheaply and amicably as possible. The more open minded you can be at an early stage the better.
2. Take Legal Advice – Getting legal advice as soon as possible means that you will be aware of your legal rights and responsibilities.
3. Get Organised – Ensure that your financial affairs are in order and you know where all your paperwork is. Obtaining marriage certificates and pension valuations can take time. Seek legal advice at an early stage and find out what you might need.
4. Don’t Panic – Divorce Lawyers available to help you through this difficult time. Making decisions in the heat of the moment is never a good idea and you might pay for this later. Take time to consider your options and to get expert legal advice.
