Family Dispute Resolution Week

This week is Family Dispute Resolution Week in England & Wales to promote the benefits of alternative dispute resolution including Mediation and Collaborative Law.

It is organised by the Family Lawyers’ Association Resolution which has also published this week a study confirming that family breakdown has a damaging impact on children's exam results and personal life.

The research which commissioned the poll of more than 4,000 adults and 500 young people across the UK, found that 65% of children of divorced parents thought that their GCSE results had been adversely affected and 44% said that their A-level results had suffered.

The research also found that there was an increased likelihood of those children experimenting with drugs and alcohol. Resolution chairwoman, Jo Edwards said it showed the importance of managing separation to "minimise the stress".

Here at Slater and Gordon our specialist team of Family Lawyers recognise that every separation is different and that the needs of each client are unique, so we offer all forms of family dispute resolution including Mediation.

At Slater and Gordon’s office in Milton Keynes Tara Deegan is our Family Mediator who can offer Mediation Information Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) from our offices in Milton Keynes, London and Cambridge.

Mediation is a way for people to resolve issues without the need for court intervention through a series of meetings together with a Family Mediator. Mediation has many advantages. It allows you to keep control over what happens to your own assets and allows you to keep ownership of decisions relating to your children and finances.
